Musical Ideas for Theme Weddings
Over the years, I have had the pleasure of collaborating with some incredibly
creative clients to find just the right music to compliment their theme
weddings.
Let the musical choices listed below inspire your imagination to create
the theme wedding of your dreams!
Shakespeare in Love
One of my musicians arranged all the music from the movie Shakespeare
in Love for one of my clients. The Bride used it as her processional
and recessional music. The bride also included the sonnets of Shakespeare
in her ceremony.
Songs used in Broadway Theme Weddings:
I Have Dreamed - The King and I
Follow the Rainbow - Finnegan Rainbow
Unexpected Song - Unexpected Song
All I Ask of You - Phantom of the Opera
Day by Day - God spell
Edelweiss - Sound of Music
Climb Every Mountain - Sound of Music
My Favorite Things – Sound of Music
Oh What a Beautiful Morning - Oklahoma
Night and Day by Cole Porter
Christmas Wedding
Processional Music for the Bride
Overture to The Messiah - Handel
And the Glory of the Lord from The Messiah - Handel
Dance of the Reed Flutes from The Nutcracker - Tchaikovsky
Waltz of the Flowers from The Nutcracker - Tchaikovsky
Recessional Music for the Bride
Joy to the World - Handel
Halleluiah Chorus from The Messiah - Handel
March from The Nutcracker - Tchaikovsky
Chinese Dance from The Nutcracker - Tchaikovsky
Beach Wedding
Have a Steel Drum Band at the cocktail hour to create an “Island
Feel” for your big day.
SIMPLE IDEAS
Here are a few very simple non-musical ways that I have seen my clients
put their individual stamp on their ceremony
Get to Know Your Celebrant
When a couple and the celebrant take the time to get to know each other,
it adds a deeper level of intimacy to the Ceremony. Nothing is more touching
then having the Ceremony begin with the celebrate saying a few words about
the journey that has led the couple to that moment.
Declaration of Support
Many of my clients will ask a parent or a good friend to say a few brief
words about their relationship with bride and the groom during the ceremony.
This is a great way for the guests at the wedding, who do not know both
sides of the family, to become more familiar with the couple.
Planting a Tree
When a couple gets married at their home or a parent’s home, planting
a tree during the ceremony is a beautiful way to remember the day for
years to come.
The Candlelighting Ceremony
In order to personalize this moment many of my clients will use a family
heirloom such as a Candelabra or Candle Sticks.
Reading and Poetry
Two or three poetry or prose readings will add so much to your ceremony
and can also provide an opportunity to directly involve some of your family
and friends. Readings can be serious and meaningful or light and humorous.
There is so much poetry and prose to choose from, whether classical Sonnets
by Shakespeare or Elizabeth Barrett Browning, to modern poems including
song lyrics.
