Susan and Jeff: Teamwork
A New York Yankee’s baseball game might not be everyone’s
cup of tea for a first date, but it worked for Susan and Jeff. When
it came time to plan their wedding, Jeff, as an avid sports fan,
felt strongly about incorporating a baseball theme. Susan, however,
had grown up with dreams of Mozart and a string quartet at her wedding.
For a moment, it seemed as though the wedding was going to be declared
a “foul.” That’s when I stepped in.
Off the bat, I knew we needed to find a compromise, something that
would incorporate both Susan and Jeff’s dreams. After much
discussion, Susan was able to see that Take Me Out to the Ball
Game would actually sound beautiful played by the string quartet.
It was decided that Susan would walk down the aisle to Mozart’s
Allegro and the ceremony would end with Take Me Out
to the Ball Game. So that the guests would not be utterly confused,
we involved the minister in the theme. Right before saying “You
may now kiss the Bride,” he presented Jeff with a New York
Yankees baseball cap and told the story of the couple’s first
date. (Jeff also wanted peanuts thrown instead of rice, fearing
someone might get hurt, the bride insisted that we stick with the
traditional rice.) The buzz during the cocktail hour was that Suzan
and Jeff had scored a homerun with their ceremony.
