Ceremony FAQ
How do I book musicians from Maura & Co. for my wedding?
Contact Maura & Co. by phone or email and I will be happy to go over
all the details with you. A contract will then be drawn up and sent to
you. You will be required to return the contract to Maura & Co., along
with a 25% deposit, within 14 days. The balance will be due to Maura &
Co. the day of your wedding.
Do we need to meet in person to discuss our music selections?
This is entirely up to you, we can meet in person or I can discuss the
details with you over the phone. What’s important is that you feel
completely comfortable with your musical choices and that your needs are
met. For special music requests, for example, a piece from your favorite
movie, it is a good idea to contact me at least three months prior to
your wedding. This will assure the availability of that particular piece,
as I will need time to find the score and make sure the music will work
for your Ceremony. If sheet music can't be found, I can arrange for the
hiring of a professional music arranger to create the score.
How do I choose the appropriate ensemble for my event?
Several factors should be considered: the venue, the number of guests
you have invited, the style of music you want, and the general ambience
you would like to create. If your wedding is in a large room and you are
inviting over one hundred guests, it is a good idea to use a trio or quartet
. Keep in mind, the larger the ensemble, the better chance for music to
be heard throughout the room. For smaller weddings (up to sixty or seventy
guests) a duet will work well.
Will you play with our church organist?
Yes, we will be happy to work with your Church organist.
How will you know when to start and stop the processional music?
Maura & Co. musicians are all well versed in playing at all types
of wedding Ceremonies. Before the big day we will work out all of the
details about the order and the number of people processing to each musical
selection. We will also take care of timing the music to fit with your
pacing.
Can you accompany my sister/aunt/cousin/friend who wants to sing
at my wedding?
Yes. Performing can be extremely nerve wrecking if you are not a professional
musician. I will work closely with you to make sure that we cover all
the details so performing at your wedding is a wonderful experience for
your family member or friend.
What do the musicians wear to a wedding ?
The musicians dress in formal black performing attire; tux for men. For
a more informal look, it would be suit and tie. Please advise us on your
dress code.
Do we need to tip the musicians?
No, a tip is not expected. If, however, you wish to tip a musician, please
feel free to do so.
Will you play outdoors?
Yes, however, the musical instruments are extremely delicate and are very
sensitive to direct sunlight, wind, sand, precipitation, and cold. In
order to protect the instruments, you need to provide a dry, shaded area
in which the musician can play. This can be under a big tree, on a shady
porch, under a tent, or in a gazebo. The outdoor temperature should be
60 degrees or more. In addition, it is always a good idea to have a "Plan
B" in case of inclement weather.
Do you attend wedding rehearsals?
No, that is not necessary since we have all the ceremony details prepared
long in advance.
Will you travel from ceremony to reception site?
Yes, we will travel from the ceremony to reception site.
Do you charge for travel?
Yes, a round-trip travel fee will be charged for any engagement over 60
miles from New York City.
